By October 2020, over 40% of Black-Owned small businesses were forced to close due to the Coronavirus pandemic. In response, we created Proudly Unstoppable – A campaign to celebrate the power and uniqueness of each minority-owned small business.
We launched in February 2021 by commissioning Sophia Yeshi (a Black Queer artist from NYC) to design artwork for the iconic UPS Express Box. This was the first time UPS had ever displayed art on its boxes in over 116 years of business. We sourced goods and content from a dozen other Black-Owned small businesses, promoting their stories and encouraging people to shop small. UPS also granted forgivable loans to a new Black-Owned business each day in the month of February.
After the launch, the Proudly Unstoppable campaign was expanded to support LGBTQIA-Owned, Latinx-Owned, Women-Owned, and AAPI-Owned small businesses and is now a cornerstone platform for the brand.
